Protein Diet Coke and other mashups are going viral in the dirty soda trend

The latest sickly sweet soda concoction is sending the internet into a frenzy.

Thanks to the Hulu hit “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” drinks known as “dirty sodas,” apparently popular in Utah, have spread worldwide.

But the #MomTok drink — which involves adding flavored syrups and cream to your drink of choice — has taken on a new form online as TikTokkers create their own mash-ups with Diet Coke.

“Protein Diet Coke,” for example, has become a staple on the social media site – a hearty glass of the sugar-free drink paired with a protein shake.

The concoction has been likened to an ice cream float – or “better” than one, for some sweet tooths – and has been called “genius” and received rave reviews of “11 out of 10.”

However, critics called it “disgusting” and “disgusting.”

“This is phenomenal,” Meredith Hayden, better known online as Wishbone Kitchen, said in a TikTok video as she tried the drink, calling it “identical” to a root beer float.

Although it's probably a little healthier than the popular dessert.

While health experts wouldn't recommend against the trendy drink, it's worth noting that Diet Coke offers no nutritional value — consuming the drink is essentially the same as drinking the protein shake alone.

Registered sports nutritionist Jessica Isaacs told Self that she “could see some pros” when she tried the drink, such as the nutritional boost of protein, electrolytes, calcium and carbohydrates.

“You take something like a Diet Coke, which actually has no nutritional value, and essentially increase the nutritional value,” she explained.

In an article for Today, registered dietitian Natalie Rizzo noted that the “protein diet cola” concoction has about as many calories as a full-sugar cola, adding that it's OK to consume it “in moderation.” drink.

“For people who like protein diet cola, I would recommend limiting it to a post-workout recovery drink to help build muscle or a snack to stay full between meals,” she wrote.

“Think of it like a protein drink with a splash of sugar-free lemonade for added flavor. But here too you could simply drink the protein milk plain.”

On Saturday, singer Dua Lipa even tried her hand at a DIY Cola creation and bragged about her bizarre recipe on TikTok.

The “Levitating” hitmaker was sitting in a restaurant as she added pickles, pickle juice, jalepeños and jalepeño juice to her plastic cup of Diet Coke.

While some viewers had concerns about the spicy but bitter drink, others said they were “interested” in trying it and vowed to try the drink later.

This isn't the first time the pop star has introduced strange food combinations to her fans.

The “Don't Start Now” diva was part of a larger movement of foodies championing olive oil ice cream, a dessert that went viral earlier this year.
