Plane crash at Rhinebeck Airfield claimed the life of a pilot

RHINEBECK – A plane participating in the weekly air show at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome crashed into the woods across from the facility Saturday afternoon, bursting into flames and killing the pilot. The air show began around 2:30 p.m. and the crash was reported around 2:47 p.m. Dutches County Emergency Response reported receiving multiple calls regarding the incident.

Firefighters from the Red Hook and Milan fire departments responded with their UTVs and an update from the airfield emergency response team indicated the pilot was still in the aircraft. First responders were able to put out the fire, but the pilot did not survive.

Several police, fire and rescue services provided assistance on site.

The pilot's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

This is the second plane crash this year at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. Read more about the mid-air collision in June here.
