Woman arrested for throwing frying pan at man's head

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Destiny Imani Mayes, 23, was arrested yesterday and charged with assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly threw a glass bottle at her boyfriend, missing him but hitting a window and then he threw a frying pan that hit him in the head.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., an Alachua County sheriff's deputy responded to the home shared by Mayes and the victim, where the victim reportedly said he asked Mayes to leave the apartment, which led to an argument. He said Mayes picked up an empty liquor bottle and threw it at him, breaking a window in her apartment.

The victim said he left the apartment at that point and Mayes also went outside. Mayes allegedly picked up a small frying pan and threw it at the victim, hitting him in the head.

Mayes allegedly continued to follow the victim, hitting and scratching him.

After Miranda, Mayes reportedly admitted to throwing the bottle and breaking the window. She also reportedly admitted to throwing the pan and hitting the victim in the head; She said the pan was small. She reportedly admitted to taking the victim's shirt off in the fight with him and said she “snapped.”

There are no local criminal convictions against Mayes, but he does have a pending case for driving without a valid license. Judge Gloria Walker ordered her held without bail.
