November: Trial set for Texarkana man on murder charges in fatal dice game shooting

TEXARKANA, Texas – A trial date for a defendant in a murder case that allegedly stemmed from a dispute over a dice game is scheduled for November.

Devon Hayden, 27, is charged with one count of murder. A final preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5, with the trial scheduled to begin Nov. 19 in Bowie County District Court.

Breoskii Warren, 21, is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Warren also has a preliminary hearing on Nov. 5, with a trial scheduled for January 2025, according to court records.

Three people were killed in the shooting in October 2023.

Hayden was allegedly playing with a group of people at 715 N. State Line Ave. dice when he and Deandre Fezell, 26, began arguing about the game, according to an affidavit.

Fezell fell and was reportedly trying to get up when Hayden allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot him. Fezell died at the scene.

After Fezell was shot, Warren allegedly began firing a rifle at Hayden, striking him and about four bystanders, according to Texarkana Texas police.

Alqadis Williams, 30, and Jayla Hampton, 22, later died in hospital. Two other people were treated for wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

Hayden was arrested after his release from the hospital and charged with murder. Warren surrendered on November 1, 2023.

According to reports, around 50 people were present at the party.

Hayden and Warren remain at the Bi-State Detention Center. Bail for Hayden is $3 million and Warren is $1 million, according to jail records.

Warren is represented by attorney Tabitha Branch and Hayden is represented by the Bowie County District Attorney's Office.
