The police chase in Pomona ends in a fatal accident: two people are thrown from the suspect's car

The California Highway Patrol was investigating a fatal wrong-way rollover crash Saturday that left two men dead during a police pursuit on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona.

Pomona Police Department officers pursued a black BMW News Service around 4:45 p.m. Friday.

The BMW rolled onto the northbound Chino Valley (71) Freeway transition road several times, Garcia said. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Erick Daniel Bolanos of Montclair, ran away but was quickly taken into custody, police said.

Two passengers in the BMW were ejected in the accident and were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A man who died of blunt traumatic injuries was identified Saturday as 34-year-old Joey Gomez, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office. The second man has not yet been identified.

A third passenger, a 45-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his abdomen and was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital for treatment, police said.

A 44-year-old woman was driving a white Toyota C-HR on the transition road when her vehicle was struck by debris from the BMW, but she was not injured.

“The traffic accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Area with assistance from the CHP Southern Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team, while all criminal charges against Mr. Bolanos are being pursued by the Pomona Police Department,” a CHP statement said.
