A vignette that aired during Friday night's episode of SmackDown reportedly hinted at the debut of longtime TNA tag team Motor City Machine Guns.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will be arriving in WWE soon in connection with the vignette.

PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reported that the original plan was for the Motor City Machine Guns to debut on NXT rather than on the main roster, but this week they were not present at the debut episode of NXT on The CW in Chicago as originally expected .

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp disputed the NXT report, noting that the Motor City Machine Guns were never intended for a run on WWE's developmental brand.

The vignette sparked conversation and speculation on social media Friday as it showed a car driving through a city with several abrupt cuts:

Slowing and pausing the vignette creates the impression that several buildings and monuments specific to Detroit are visible.

Both Sabin and Shelley are from the Detroit area, hence the Motor City Machine Guns tag team name.

Sabin and Shelley began working together in 2006 and made their TNA debut in 2007. In the years that followed, they enjoyed successful runs as a team in TNA, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

The Motor City Machine Guns are three-time TNA World Tag Team Champion, one-time ROH World Tag Team Champion and one-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight and NJPW Strong Openweight Team Champion.

Sabin and Shelley also had great individual success, each winning the TNA Heavyweight Championship once.

After spending some time apart, the Motor City Machine Guns reunited in TNA in 2020 and re-established themselves as one of the best tag teams in the world.

Sabin and Shelley are 42 and 41 years old, respectively, but they are finally ready to get their chance on pro wrestling's biggest stage.

Their addition to the main roster shows how highly they are valued by WWE leadership and suggests they will have the chance to join a SmackDown tag team division that features The Bloodline, DIY and The Street Profits The advance is to breathe even more life into it and A-Town Down Under are leading the way.
