WWE Champion Credits Triple H's Guidance: 'He Always Supported Me'

A current WWE champion admits that without the Triple H era he may not have had the success he has within the company.

After the Chief Content Officer was given full creative control in 2023, shortly after the company's Endeavor acquisition was completed, several stars such as Damian Priest, Jey Uso and LA Knight finally had their time to shine by winning singles championships in prominent games.

One of the biggest success stories of the last two years was Günther, who made the Intercontinental Championship more important than it had been in decades, won the revamped King of the Ring tournament and is now the World Heavyweight Champion. The Ring General once again looks unbeatable and has come a long way from his questionable booking in the previous era, most notably the narrow loss at Survivor Series 2019 in the 3-brand elimination match.

Speaking to Metro's Alistair McGeorge, the World Champion reflected on his WWE rise and explained that he always had the support of Paul Levesque:

“He always supported me and saw something in me. In general, I think he is someone who is very disciplined when it comes to achieving and sticking to his long-term goals with certain people. I don't know if I would be here without ever being more or less associated with Triple H in that sense. Ultimately, Triple H is our matchmaker right now, he's the head of creative. And what that role looks like in our sport is he’s the head coach of a football team.”

Paul Levesque took over as creative director from Vince McMahon, who resigned after allegations of sexual assault were made public in a lawsuit filed by former employee Janel Grant. When asked about his relationship with McMahon, Gunther admitted that he did not spend much time working under the former chairman and that their interactions were limited:

“The creative ideas from his side were of course never my thing. But that is subjective. It's a matter of taste. I think the success cannot be denied. But I was just below him for maybe three and a half months and had half a conversation with him in that time.”
