State police arrest man in Enosburgh killing

ENOSBURGH – Vermont State Police have taken 29-year-old Jordan Lawyer into custody on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree aggravated domestic violence following an incident that left his father dead and his mother seriously injured.

The arrest came late Friday, Oct. 4, after an alleged assault at the apartment they shared at 2521 West Enosburgh Rd.

Lawyer is accused of attacking his parents with a baseball bat, resulting in the death of his father, 54-year-old Todd Lawyer, and the hospitalization of his mother, 58-year-old Robin Lawyer, whose condition has since stabilized.

The attorney was held without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday, Oct. 7, in the Criminal Division of the Vermont Supreme Court in St. Albans.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of Todd Lawyer's death is scheduled at the chief medical examiner's office in Burlington.

Further information is pending and will be available following arraignment. At that time, the affidavit of probable cause will be filed and made public.

Media inquiries about the hearing should be directed to the court.
