An anti-Israel protester sets himself on fire outside the White House, a video shows

During an anti-Israel demonstration Saturday evening, a protester attempted to self-immolate outside the White House, disturbing video footage.

According to a clip, the unidentified man can be seen screaming in pain after setting his left arm on fire in the middle of the street as shocked police and passers-by rush to help.

He holds his left arm high in the air while on fire while the crowd douses his arm with water and extinguishes the flames with towels.

The man screams that he is a journalist as he is restrained by DC Metropolitan police officers, another clip posted by Free Beacon reporter Jessica Costescu shows after the fire was put out.

The left sleeve of his burned shirt appears to be soaked with fluid and pink, and superficial burns can be seen on his bare arm.

According to the clip, a passerby pours his water bottle on the wound.

“We are spreading the misinformation,” he shouts at one point in the video as a crowd gathers around him.

“I'm a journalist and I said it's OK,” he shouts as a woman hugs him.

A white-shirted officer jumps into the scene and yells at onlookers to “support each other,” pushing some out of the way, the video shows.

According to the Washington DC Metropolitan Police, the man set himself on fire in the 800 block of 16th Street, right in front of the White House, around 5:45 p.m.

DC Fire and EMS responded and transported the man to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.

“The District of Columbia has a long and proud history of peaceful First Amendment activity, and the Metropolitan Police Department manages hundreds of protests, demonstrations and other events each year,” the department said.

“We will continue to support those who choose to protest peacefully and safely, and we will continue to hold accountable those who commit criminal acts in our city.”

On Saturday evening, protesters gathered outside the White House in Washington DC ahead of the first anniversary of October 7, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, killing about 1,200 people, sparking the ongoing war in the region.

The protesters are calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where an estimated 40,000 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli military last year.
