Public Health Madison & Dane County is seeking information about a dog that bit a person Saturday.

MADISON (WKOW) — Public Health Madison & Dane County is seeking information about a dog that bit a person Saturday.

According to PHMDC, the incident occurred at the corner of S. Park Street and Haywood Drive around 2:15 p.m.

The bite occurred when someone walked past a man walking two dogs on a leash. The man is described as 1.75 meters tall, with gray hair and glasses. He was walking two Chihuahuas.

Anyone with information is asked to call police and fire departments at 608-255-2345 and ask for an animal control officer.

According to PHMDC, it responds to more than 800 animal bites each year. The agency offers the following tips for reducing bites:

  • When walking your dog, shorten the leash and leave enough space between your dog and anyone passing by to avoid contact.
  • Teach children how to handle pets safely, avoid hugging or kissing dogs, and always ask permission before petting an animal.
  • Don't use your legs or arms to break up a dog fight, but instead find an object that you can use to break up the fight.
