Suspected DUI driver arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Nellis near Cheyenne

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a fatal hit-and-run accident Saturday morning near Nellis Blvd. and Cheyenne Ave.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5:38 a.m. at the intersection of Marion Dr. and Flippin St.

According to police, evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that a 1996 Ford Ranger was parked on Marion Dr. was traveling northbound and approaching Flippin St.

The pedestrian, a 48-year-old man, was on the roadway near Flippin and Marion.

The front end of the Ford truck struck the man, sending him northbound, police said.

According to officials, the driver of the Ford, a 22-year-old man, was unable to stop and left the scene of the accident.

When paramedics arrived, they transported the man to UMC, where he died from his injuries shortly after arrival.

The driver and the Ford truck were later located by investigators.

According to LVMPD, the driver showed signs of impairment and was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run.

According to police, this is the 114th traffic-related death in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2024.

The accident is being investigated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Division.
