Pedestrian hit and killed by suspected driver under the influence of alcohol

A 48-year-old Las Vegas man is dead after police say he was struck by a pickup truck that then fled the scene Saturday morning.

According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, a 1996 Ford Ranger was traveling north on Marion Drive toward Flippin Street in the northeast Las Vegas Valley shortly before 6 a.m. when it struck the man, who was in the roadway near the intersection according to the Metropolitan Police. The ministry announced this in a press release on Saturday. The ranger did not stop, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital, where he later died, the release said.

Investigators located the ranger and driver, who police said showed signs of impairment. Police identified the driver as Alfredo Jauregui, 22, and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of drunken driving and hit-and-run.

According to the press release, this pedestrian's death was the 114th traffic-related fatality in 2024 within the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction.

The collision was still under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call Metro at 702-828-3595. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit www.CrimeStoppersOfNV.com.
