UFC 307 LIVE: Alex Pereira knocks out Khalil Rountree in brutal main event

UFC's Robert Whittaker: 'I think I'm the most dangerous middleweight of all time'

In the main event of UFC 307 on Saturday, Alex Pereira brutally knocked out Khalil Rountree Jr., continuing his winning streak inside the Octagon.

Rountree presented Pereira's toughest challenge yet as light heavyweight champion – but as the fight entered the championship rounds, an exhausted and bloodied Rountree could only endure limited punishment and succumbed to defeat late in the fourth round.

In the co-main event, Julianna Pena reclaimed her throne in the women's bantamweight division, defeating Raquel Pennington by split decision.

In her post-fight interview, Pena called on Amanda Nunes to come out of retirement to organize a trilogy fight and dismissed any suggestion that Kayla Harrison – who also emerged victorious on Saturday – would fight for the belt next.

Other star fighters in action included Jose Aldo versus Mario Bautista, while fan favorite Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson also took to the cage in a star-studded preliminary bout against Joaquin Buckley.

UFC 307 LIVE: Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree

Rountree gets worse and worse as this fight goes on. Suddenly the tank is empty.

Pereira starts the round with a stiff jab to his right eye, which pops open. The Brazilian drives forward with a vicious combination.

Poatan smells blood and places warheads on Rountree's skull. The challenger is exhausted and shoots repeatedly, violently and brutally

Rountree is drenched in his own purple and lying against the fence. He throws two seizing body shots before an uppercut finally knocks him to the mat.

The spirit of a warrior from The War Horse, but he could only take so much punishment. Pereira took no prisoners, devastating consequences. AND STILL!

Big body shots for Rountree early in the round, Pereira responds with a head kick.

Rountree succeeds in another overhand counterattack, putting Poatan in the lead in the first half of the third round.
