New Age | AL and JL leaders arrested in Dhaka for murder during movement





Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested an Awami League leader and a Juba League leader in connection with the killing of Imon Hossain Akash in Pallabi area on Saturday during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Those arrested are Mohammad Din Islam, a Juba League leader in District No. 3, and Md Akbar Hossain Jony, joint general secretary of Awami League District No. 2 under Pallabi police station.

On August 4, 2024, Imon Hossain Akash along with other students and civilians joined a peaceful protest in front of Popular Diagnostic Center near Mirpur 10 bus stop.

According to reports, members of various affiliated organizations of the Awami League opened fire indiscriminately on the protesters during the protest, injuring many people, including Imon.

Imon was admitted to Dr. Azmal was taken to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

On August 27, Imon's mother lodged a complaint at Pallabi police station.

During the investigation, police with the help of intelligence and technology managed to arrest Din Islam and Akbar Hossain Jony as named suspects in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Talebur Rahman said: “The accused have been produced before the court.”

Earlier, Pallabi police had also arrested Sheikh Mohammad Wasim, legal secretary of Juba League's Pallabi Thana unit, from Pallabi area on Thursday evening in connection with the same case.
