Miami Hurricanes Football: Canes are officially bowl eligible

In their second year under head coach Mario Cristobal, the Miami Hurricanes are bowl eligible after winning their sixth game 39-38 at Cal on Saturday night.

The difference this year is obviously that Miami is undefeated for six weeks and ranked in the top 10, so the expectations of what bowl (or better…) the Canes might play in increases with each passing week.

Through the six weeks of the CFB season, there are two teams that are 6-0 and are bowl eligible:

  1. Indiana (not a typo)
  2. Miami

It took a few years, but Cristobal has finally gotten Miami's roster and performance to the level of his dreams. And now that the team is half way through the season undefeated, there is still everything to win for this team. Every single game is a step toward an ACC Championship and more.

And before you rip me off for this article, realize that there are other teams that are NOT bowl eligible and may not make it. (Looking at you, Florida State). So be grateful for what we have. It could always be worse.

In recent years, Miami has played in lower tier bowls such as the Camping World Bowl, the Sun Bowl and others. With six wins already under their belt, Miami is obviously expecting a bigger challenge and the sky is the limit for now. Say what you will, but Miami is undefeated and bowl eligible and will continue to work toward reaching a major bowl game (New Year's 6 or College Football Playoff) for the first time since the 2003 season (2004 Orange Bowl).

Great thing, but the work isn't over yet. Carry on, boys.
