Massive drug raid: Authorities seize mephedrone, raw materials worth Rs 1,814 crore from Bhopal factory

In one of the biggest operations, authorities have seized synthetic stimulant mephedrone (MD) and its raw materials worth Rs 1,814 crore from a factory in Bhopal, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said.

The joint operation was carried out by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Delhi, he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 6.

“Kudos to Gujarat ATS and NCB (Ops), Delhi, for a massive victory in the war against drugs! Recently, they raided a factory in Bhopal and seized MD and materials used in manufacturing MD, totaling worth Rs 1,814 Crores!” Sanghavi said.

The minister said the commitment of law enforcement agencies was truly commendable.

“This success is a testament to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and abuse. Their collective efforts are critical to protecting the health and safety of our community,” he said.

The latest development follows the seizure of over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, estimated to be worth around Rs 5,620 crore, from a hideout in south Delhi's Mahipalur last week.

Delhi Police's investigation into drug trafficking worth Rs 5,000 crore has uncovered an extensive network spanning international borders, including London and Dubai. The information came to light after the initial questioning of the accused, including Tushar Goyal, the alleged mastermind of the racket.

During the survey, the name of Virendra Basoya, a resident of Sarojini Nagar in south Delhi, stood out as a central figure: India today reported. Basoya allegedly runs a massive drug syndicate out of Dubai. Last year, Pune police seized 'Meow Meow' drugs worth Rs 3,000 crore and Basoya's name had cropped up in connection with the case.
