Maryland man arrested after domestic violence incident, standoff in Sweden, Maine

Authorities say a 64-year-old woman was attacked by James Shepherd of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. When officers arrived on scene, Shepherd refused to leave the home.

A 65-year-old Maryland man is in custody following a domestic violence attack that led to a standoff with police in the Swedish town of Maine early Sunday morning. It all started around 1:45 a.m. when officers from the Oxford County Sheriff's Office, along with Bridgton Police and United Ambulance Service, were called to a home on Black Mountain Road. According to authorities, a 64-year-old woman was attacked and suffered a head injury. Luckily, her injuries were not life-threatening and she managed to get out of the house before officers arrived. She was taken to Brighton Hospital for treatment and is expected to be discharged later today. The suspect, James Godfrey Shepherd of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, refused to leave the home when officers attempted to make contact. While they worked to obtain a search warrant, officers quickly set up a cordon around the home. Shortly after 5 a.m., they entered the home and arrested Shepherd without issue. He is now facing charges of serious domestic violence and confrontation with the police. Shepherd was booked into the Oxford County Jail.
