Video forecast for Sunday morning

The next two days will be characterized by warm temperatures with a touch of humidity. A cold front moving through late Monday will finally bring fall weather to the Capital Region next week.

Today and tonight: Widespread cloud cover has finally left the region, and that means a lot more sunshine. The only clouds will be some fair weather cumulus in the afternoon and evening. With no extensive clouds, highs could reach into the low 90s. That's 7-8 degrees above average for this time of year. A shower or two throughout the viewing area cannot be ruled out. Most stay dry. Tonight low temperatures will be around 70 degrees with clear skies.

Next: Big changes are coming. This will take the form of a cold front. The front passage should take place in the evening hours of Monday. The remainder of the week will feature significantly cooler and drier conditions. Highs will be in the mid 80s and lows will be around 60 degrees. Some places, especially north of Baton Rouge, may see temperatures in the upper 50s on some nights. These conditions are expected to continue into next weekend.

The Tropics: Tropical Storm Milton now has winds of 60 miles per hour. Its movement is now eastward at 5 miles per hour. Significant strengthening is likely, and Milton will approach Florida as a strong Category 3 hurricane by the middle of next week. The impact on the region is likely to be very small. Some higher waves and coastal flooding are possible.

Hurricane Kirk is gaining width and losing momentum. The maximum sustained wind is now 105 mph and it is moving quickly NNE at 23 mph. Large waves from this system have reached the East Coast of the United States. Other than higher waves and the risk of rip currents, no other impacts are expected in the United States. Kirk will remain in the open Atlantic.

Kirk is followed by Hurricane Leslie, which becomes slightly stronger. Maximum sustained winds are 85 mph as the storm moves northwest and follows Kirk out to sea.

A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa in a few days. Some development of this system is possible thereafter as it moves west or west-northwest across the eastern tropical Atlantic. The system is expected to move near or over the Cape Verde Islands on Wednesday and Thursday and stakeholders there should monitor its progress.
