Brake failure causes fatal crash in Idaho County

The driver from Nampa was uninjured, one passenger died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital.

IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho – A man has died and a woman is in the hospital after a brake failure crash in Idaho County.

Idaho State Police (ISP) said the accident occurred near Elk City Summit Road on October 5 around 3 p.m. and Newsome Creek Rd. in Idaho County.

Police said a 57-year-old Nampa man was driving a white 2001 Ford F350 west on Elk City Road. when the car's brakes stopped working. The man went off the road, up an embankment and rolled over.

One of the passengers, a 41-year-old man, died at the scene and another passenger, a 62-year-old woman, was taken to hospital by air ambulance. The driver was not injured.

Police do not believe alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash because both men were not wearing seatbelts. ISP is still investigating.
