Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to two separate incidents on the Potomac River on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

According to MCFRS chief spokesman Pete Piringer, the initial incident left several people stranded on rocks near Elms Point and fast water rescue boats were sent to assist with assistance from Loudoun and Fairfax Fire and Rescue.

At the same time, a swimmer was reported in distress near Blockhouse Point. While those stranded on the rocks were rescued, boats also searched for the person in the water in the second incident, with efforts still ongoing.
