Lizzo said she felt the tension but wondered if she was in the right place for a relationship at that time. The journey of sorting out her confusing feelings about love was seemingly documented in “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready),” the fourth track on Particularly.

“I had a lot of shit going on and I was still in my 'I don't feel lovable' phase and I still wasn't where I wanted to be professionally,” Lizzo said in a recent interview with Stern. “Even when a person came along that I was totally into, I had these wild defense mechanisms that made it almost impossible to have a real, intimate relationship.”

Last month, HBO released a documentary called Love, Lizzo about her life and rise to fame. “No matter what part of my story you come in at, I'm always chasing the music,” Lizzo said in the film's trailer.

The film begins with her beginnings in Detroit and Houston. Lizzo describes her childhood in the trailer, explaining that as a little girl she wrote pop songs even though she didn't have enough confidence in her voice to sing them herself.

“Nobody was trying to sign a fat black girl who rapped and sang and played the flute,” she said. “…It took so much hard work to get to where I am today, but I found my voice. When people see me on stage now, they see themselves.”

The documentary shows archive material from many of their eras – including some concert footage and behind-the-scenes insights. The trailer accompanied them during the recordings Particularly – and played former President James Madison’s old crystal flute at the Library of Congress.
