The Doctor meets Joy in the new Doctor Who Christmas special shared at San Diego Comic-Con

Doctor Who will return to our screens on Christmas Day with a new special, and the first footage from the episode was shown this afternoon on San Diego Comic Con.

What happens:

  • Doctor Who Fans at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend were treated to an exclusive clip from the upcoming Christmas special, which features Nicola Coughlan as a guest star (Bridgerton, Derry Girl) as joy.
  • In the exclusive 3-minute clip, we see Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor appear at random points in Earth's history – offering a ham and cheese toastie and a pumpkin latte to the baffled people he encounters – before finally meeting Joy in her hotel room in London in 2024. Meanwhile, Joy, who has just checked in, is much less alone in her single room at the hotel than she originally expected…

  • Where was the doctor? What did Joy see in her room? And who is the ham and cheese toastie really for? We will have to find out when Doctor Who is coming back this Christmas!

  • During the panel in Hall H we also learned some facts about the upcoming 2025 season of Doctor Who.
  • Varada Sethu, who appeared in this season's episode “Boom,” will return as a companion, this time playing Belinda Chandra.
  • Jonah-Hauer-King (The little mermaid) will play an important role in Ruby's (Millie Gibson) story in the next season.
  • It was also announced that filming will begin on a new spin-off series. The war between land and sea.
