Lindsay Lohan returns 18 years after the premiere with a Christmas tribute to “Mean Girls”

Lindsay Lohan kicked off the holiday season – and her long-awaited comeback – with a spirited performance this week with a modern take on a Christmas classic.

On Friday, the actress revealed her rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock,” which will be heard in “Falling for Christmas,” her upcoming Netflix comedy.

“Jingle Bell Rock” was made famous in 1957 by country musician Bobby Helms. Lohan's version is, of course, a playful nod to her own cinematic heritage. She first sang the song in the hit 2004 film “Mean Girls” alongside her co-stars Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried.

In the 18 years since the film's release, her iconic rendition – performed at a high school talent show with Tina Fey on piano – has inspired countless tributes on YouTube, TikTok and other platforms.

“Falling for Christmas” will be released on November 10th and is about the spoiled hotel heiress Sierra (Lohan), who suffers from amnesia after a skiing accident.

In true romantic comedy fashion, Sierra's recovery begins a few days before Christmas in the care of attractive ski lodge owner Jake (Chord Overstreet) and his young daughter (Olivia Perez).

“Falling for Christmas,” directed by Janeen Damian, is Lohan’s first lead role in a major motion picture since 2013’s “The Canyons.” She is also an executive producer on the film, which is the first in a three-film deal with Netflix.

In recent years, Lohan has kept a low profile and currently lives in Dubai with her husband Bader Shammas, whom she married in July. She has also spoken openly in interviews about her experiences with drug and alcohol addiction during her early years in Hollywood.

Recently, however, Lohan has hinted that she would like to restart her career, describing filming “Falling for Christmas” as a “rebirth.”

“When I got the script, it was very comforting for me to see a movie that was a romantic comedy, because it's always fun to work on something lighthearted and family-oriented that makes people happy and gives them a little bit of variety,” she told Cosmopolitan in an interview published Monday. “And I was excited to kind of come back, do something with Netflix that is, in a way, a big family. It was just the right thing for me, especially being an executive producer.”
