“The Good Ship Murder” is renewed by Channel 5 for two more seasons and a Christmas special

Following the success of the first season, Channel 5 today announced that The Good Ship Murder is returning for two more seasons and a Christmas special. The new series, produced by Clapperboard in association with FIFTH SEASON, promises more sun, sea and dark intrigue and continues to entertain viewers with its unique blend of crime and musical charm.

The dynamic couple of cabaret singer turned detective Jack Grayling, played by Shayne Ward (“Coronation Street,” “Young Gun,” “Band of Gold”) and extremely ambitious First Officer Kate Woods, played by Catherine Tyldesley (“Scarborough,” “15 Days,” “Viewpoint”), returns.

As will the popular cruise director Beverly Carnell, played by Claire Sweeney. Ross Adams (Hollyoaks) will also join the cast as new character Colin Smallwood, and the series will also feature numerous guest stars on the voyage.

The success of the first series – which averaged 2.1 million viewers on Channel 5 – paved the way for the continuation of Jack and Kate's adventures solving crime against the backdrop of the sparkling Mediterranean. As the ship sets sail for new horizons, viewers can look forward to a series of stunning coastal destinations and a new wave of thrilling mysteries to unravel.

Paul Testar, Drama Editor at Channel 5, commented on the series' return: “Greg and I are excited about these new stories in The Good Ship Murder. The mix of music, mystery and beautiful locations was a winning formula that our viewers loved in the first season and we are delighted to be working with Clapperboard again to bring this series back.”

Mike Benson, Managing Director of Clapperboard, shared his excitement: “The first season was something of a voyage – or a mid-priced cruise – into the unknown… not least trying to film a drama on a cruise ship with 6,000 holidaymakers travelling to 8 different countries! However, we were delighted with how well the concept resonated with audiences and are excited to be filming two more seasons full of sun, show tunes and deception.”

Prentiss Fraser, President of TV Distribution at FIFTH SEASON, added: “'The Good Ship Murder' offers exactly what buyers around the world are looking for right now – it's a long-running series, set in beautiful, sunny locations and is a lighthearted, cozy crime thriller with a surprising twist…

“We knew the show was destined to sail straight into viewers' hearts and become a fan-favorite recurring series – and now we're excited to bring new mysteries to our existing partners around the world, with even more to come in the territories where we continue to have offerings.”

The two new 8 x 60-minute crime series are produced by Clapperboard in collaboration with FIFTH SEASON.
