Marcus Rashford plays a radish in Aldi's new Christmas advert.

The Manchester United footballer lends his voice to a cute vegetable in a tuxedo in the supermarket chain's Christmas advert, a remake of “A Christmas Carol” which focuses on the miser Ebanana Scrooge.

In the ad, Kevin the carrot returns to remind the banana of the spirit of the holidays.

He stops to chat with Marcus Radishford, who wishes the carrot a Merry Christmas before they set off on an adventure.

Thankfully, Ebanana lets his skin fall off and vows to mend his ways, just like Scrooge in Charles Dickens' classic. At the end of the commercial, he brings Kevin and his family a Christmas pudding.

The narrator of the play is Jim Broadbent, who says at the end: “The moral of the story? You'll find the answer… to be happy, you must be kind.”

As part of Aldi's collaboration with the 24-year-old English striker, the club will donate 1.8 million meals to families in need during the Christmas period.

Rashford had previously successfully campaigned for the British government to provide free school meals during the lockdown.

This week he was awarded an MBE for his efforts and spoke of how proud he was to be part of the Aldi campaign.

He said: “As a family, we relied on the local food bank for our Christmas dinner.

“I still remember standing in line with my mom in front of the building. Mom was embarrassed that she might be recognized.

“Against this background, I am pleased to be able to support Aldi’s campaign.

“Many children growing up in similar situations to mine have very low expectations at this time of year. Add to that the impact of the pandemic, and the least they deserve is a Christmas dinner.”
