Christmas present in July for needy children

For the enthusiastic children of St. Laurence Children's Haven, the joy of Christmas came a little early this year.

On Saturday, July 20, members of the Clearwater Chapter of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Owners Riding Group (HOG) opened their hearts and arms to provide the children with an unforgettable day of fun, games and gifts.

About 26 children were accompanied by the Harley riders from their refuge in Discovery to the Gnu Kids playground in Muldersdrift.

The joy on the children's faces was priceless as they arrived in style and were treated by the chapter members to a day full of fun, games and a personalized Santa Box.

According to Brenda Whitedes, a charity worker, this is something they feel very strongly about. Three times a year they hold an event where they bless and entertain children from charities for a day.

“Our chapter members donated money for the children’s needs and bought gifts for them so they can be pampered today,” she said.

St. Laurence Children's Haven has been a beacon of hope for children since 2001, caring for more than 2,500 children from all walks of life.
