Shoppers can't believe their eyes when Mars Christmas favourite is discovered on supermarket shelves

Shoppers were surprised when they discovered a popular Christmas chocolate on the shelves of a supermarket.

A customer who runs a food review site found Mint Maltesers Reindeers on offer at Asda and shared the news on social media.

The customer took a photo of the signature Christmas chocolate treat and posted it on Newfoodsuk's Facebook page, captioning it: “Mint Maltesers reindeer are back at Asda!!”

The chocolate, made by Mars and available in a single pack, costs 55p at Asda.

A single chocolate reindeer weighing 29 g has 157 kcal.

After the shopper shared the photo on the social media site, another person said they found the chocolate reindeer on offer at their local Asda.

They wrote: “Just ate my last one yesterday, they were reduced to only 10p each!! Bought loads.”

Another commented: “A reminder of how close Christmas really is. This year is flying by!”

And another said: “I love Christmas.”

However, some shoppers could not believe their eyes and pointed out that Christmas was still five months away.

One wrote: “It’s July!!!!!”

Someone added: “Already?!!”

One agreed, saying, “I swear it comes earlier every year.”

We checked the Asda website and saw that you can also order chocolate reindeer treats online.

Other supermarkets such as Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Tesco are not yet selling the product as it is listed as out of stock on their websites.

Amazon has the Christmas treat on offer, but the price is higher than at Asda.

For example, on Amazon you can buy a box of 10 Maltesers chocolate reindeer for £15.99 – that means each item costs £1.59.

These treats are currently out of stock on eBay.

Yesterday we reported that mince pies were found on offer at Morrisons.

The news was shared on the Newfoodsuk page, where the shopper said: “Mince pies are back at Morrisons!!”

The box, which contains six shortcrust mince pies, costs £1.75.

One avid mince pies lover called the treat “the best ever” and another said the supermarket’s traditional sweet pies were “delicious.”

How to save money when shopping at the supermarket

There are many ways to save money when shopping for groceries.

Look for yellow or red stickers on the products that alert you to reduced prices.

If the food is fresh, you need to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money because you'll be less likely to make hasty purchases at the grocery store.

Plus, switching to own brand can easily save you hundreds of pounds a year on your grocery bills.

This means that we avoid the “finest” or “luxury” products and instead focus on “own” or “value” type product lines.

Many supermarkets offer special offers on deformed and defective fruits and vegetables, which you can get at low prices.

Lidl, for example, offers 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50 as part of its “Waste Not” program.

If you are on a low income and are a parent, you may be able to get Healthy Start vouchers worth up to £442 a year, which you can also spend at the supermarket.

In addition, many municipalities offer supermarket vouchers as part of the household support fund.

However, some people were confused and said it was too early for mince pies. One said: “You've got to be kidding!”

“Pay attention to the season when buying food rather than rushing through it.”

Another commented: “Too early. Not acceptable before October or I'll be sick of them by Christmas. Lol”

Earlier this month, Quality Street chocolate tubs were spotted stacked on a wooden pallet at Tesco's Newmarket store, perfect for sharing this Christmas.

Although it's still a long way from time to hang up the stockings, one shopper pointed out that they make perfect end-of-school-year gifts.

In a Facebook post, the buyer commented: “Quality Street is in charge of end of year teacher gifts.”
