Heritage Days 2024: a playful visit to the International Visual Theatre in Paris

The Heritage Days are back and will take place on September 21 and 22 in 2024! For the occasion, the International Visual Theatre, an emblematic place for deaf culture, offers you an original and fun visit while immersing you in the world of sign language.

The Heritage Travel are back! After Paris was shaken by the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, French cultural traditions are back in full swing, and the Journées du Patrimoine (Days of Heritage ) are coming to the capital on the weekend of September 21 and 22. Visit the International Visual Theatre to learn more about Deaf culture!

The International Visual Theatre (IVT), founded in Paris in 1976 by Alfredo Corradois a unique institution dedicated to the promotion of visual theatre and French Sign Language (LSL). IVT plays an essential role in promoting deaf culture by integrating LSF into its artistic productions. Located in the 9th arrondissement, it offers a varied program of shows, workshops, training courses and cultural events accessible to all.

In addition to theatre performances IVT organizes educational activities to raise public awareness of the importance of visual communication. Workshops and training sessions allow participants to discover and learn about LSF, while performances provide a complete immersion in a universe where physical and visual expression are central. Thanks to these initiatives, IVT enriches the Parisian art scene and builds bridges between the deaf and hearing communities.

  • Open Day IVT-International Visual Theatre
    Saturday, 21 September, 2:00 p.m.

    Open the doors of the IVT for a day and discover the richness of this symbolic place of deaf culture.
    Immerse yourself in the world of sign language through various activities (conferences, stands, visits, workshops, etc.) and be amazed by the multidisciplinarity of this language which is at the same time artistic, cultural and linguistic.
    Our team will be happy to assist you on your journey and answer your questions.

  • Conference on the history of the IVT

    Discover the history of the IVT, from its creation in 1977 at the Château de Vincennes to its reopening at the Cité Chaptal in 2007, through its first theatrical creations in sign language.

  • Immersive tour in French sign language

    Discover Deaf culture on this immersive tour that delves into sign language.

  • Guided tour by IVT in the LSF
    Saturday, September 21, 4:15 p.m.

    Come and discover the history of IVT and 7 Cité Chaptal during this guided tour.

  • Discussion about diversity in cultural sites
    Saturday, 21 September, 5:30 p.m.

    Diversity, be it linguistic, cultural or social, is a key element of today's challenges.
    IVT-International Visual Theatre has always been a place with a double culture: deafness and hearing. Come and discover how these two cultures meet and enrich each other in this unique place and how a mixed team of deaf and hearing people work together.
