Netflix fans criticize Joe Rogan's “painfully unfunny” special despite it landing at number 1

While the streaming service has received much praise for its stand-up comedy specials, Joe Rogan's recent appearance on Netflix was panned as “incredibly unfunny.”

The American entertainment star is best known for his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” but sparked even more controversy after expressing his views on vaccinations, the LGBTQ+ community, and online disinformation.

Now Netflix has aired its third comedy special for the streaming service: Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats. The release on August 3rd has been a huge success with the platform's subscribers.

“I know comedy. I love comedy. I understand comedy. The problem with Joe Rogan's 'comedy' is not that he goes too far, it's that he is so incredibly unfunny and throws in unnecessary things just to get the support of people who would call him a savage for making that 'joke,'” posted one fan on X/Twitter.

A second commented: “I love it when Joe Rogan does a comedy special to remind the world how embarrassing and unfunny he actually is. Two jokes out of everything he's covered are weed, aliens and vaccines. I give up after nine minutes.”

“Joe Rogan is incredibly unfunny. Even if his pod was worth watching, it was never because of his humor,” explained a third.

As expected, the reviews of the new TV show were not in Rogan's favor.

Louis Chilton wrote in the Independent: “That he became Netflix's poster boy of the week is a devastating reminder of what it takes to really make it in today's comedy world. If it were just about jokes, this wouldn't be a problem.”

Sean L. McCarthy of The Daily Beast agreed: “Joe Rogan is keeping Austin weird. And not in a good way.”

“If you know Rogan, you know exactly what you're getting with this special… although the title of the special may require some explanation for those unfamiliar with the language used in it,” added Matthew Creith of The Wrap.

Rogan himself is at least happy with how the event went and tweeted: “Thanks for tuning in! That was a wild experience. Thanks to the incredible crowd in San Antonio for being so damn cool… what a ride it's been.”

Other (and arguably successful) Netflix series include Virgin River Season 6, Stranger Things Season 5, and Heartstopper Season 3. You can also check out other TV series streaming this month.
