Ryan Reynolds from “Deadpool & Wolverine” speaks in a heartfelt message about the success of the MCU film

Ryan Reynolds has shared a heartfelt reflection on his incredible journey from first taking on the role of Deadpool to the phenomenal success of Deadpool and Wolverine. As the new Marvel film grossed more than most debut films in its second weekend and surpassed the box office totals of Reynolds' previous films, the actor looked back on everything that led up to one of the biggest films of his career.

Deadpool and Wolverine is one of those lightning-strike movies that only happens when the movie gods allow the right actors to come together at the right time and make the right movie. With the film giving fans plenty of moments to enjoy and delivering an emotional, hilarious and most importantly, free show, it's not surprising that it exceeded all expectations. In his Instagram post, Reynolds said:

“Almost a decade of getting to do this. 10 years ago we would have happily taken those INSANE second weekend numbers as our opening weekend. The way Deadpool & Wolverine captured the moment is hard to process. It feels a little like it's happening to someone else. Either way, making these movies was more fun than anyone has any right to. I can't help but reminisce a little bit.

There are far too many people who made critical creative contributions to name, but of course my longtime co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (without whom there would be no Deadpool movie), Tim Miller, Mr. David Leitch (who also directed Fall Guy – one of the best movies of the summer), 20th Century Fox, George Dewey and Kevin Feige. Last on the list, but at the top of my heart: my creative, spiritual (and almost literal) brothers Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman. It was all about inches and the relentlessness with which we approached this film (especially in post-production, which is another phase of the writing process) is something I will never forget.”

Ryan Reynolds is grateful to the people who really matter – the fans

While Reynolds has a lot of love for those who helped, Deadpool and Wolverine Across the finish line and into theaters, he reserved his final words for the people most important to a film's success: the fans who came by the millions around the world to see the film. Reynolds concluded his post:

“Thank you to every single person who came to see this film. Thank you to everyone who saw it multiple times, got to know new characters and tipped their hats to some familiar faces we love from the past. It was a damn exciting moment.”

After the year 2023 that Marvel Studios has behind them, no one would have believed that in 2024 they would deliver one of the biggest films of the year and one of the biggest films of the MCU of all time. With records continuing to fall Deadpool and Wolverine dominated the box office for a second week, easily beating out every other film currently on the market. It would be a hopeful but foolish film to consider competing against the might of this historic return to form for the Marvel machine.
