Joanna Page, who plays the character Stacey, says she has finally received the script for the Christmas special

Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page has said she has seen the script for the final episode of the show but is worried it will give too much away.

“I finally have the script,” she said BBC Radio Wales on Saturday.

“I'm so scared – in the beginning, before we had the script, everything was fine because you could ask me things and I would say, 'Well, I really don't know.'

“Now I know that I'm so afraid of everything I say that the best thing to do is just not say anything. I'm terrified.”

Gavin and Stacey co-creators Ruth Jones and James Corden announced earlier this year that the show would return with one final episode to air on Christmas Day.

The sitcom first aired on BBC Three in 2007 and was broadcast in three seasons and two Christmas specials.

The final episode of 2019 ended on a cliffhanger when Nessa, played by Jones, proposed to Smithy, played by Corden.

When asked what she thought about a possible marriage, actress Page, who plays Stacey, did not want to commit herself.

“My lips are sealed,” she said. “I will not be tempted into anything.”

She also declined to reveal whether viewers would ever find out what happened on the fishing trip.

“I'm like everyone else,” she said. “I think, 'Oh my God, what's going to happen?'

“I've waited five years, you know.”

Page, who is currently filming a new series exploring the Welsh coast with Wynne Evans, said she finally received the script for Gavin and Stacey during a break in filming on the show.

“It was about seven o'clock in the evening and I thought, 'Oh my God, are they going to send it? Are they going to send it?'

“Because they had sent a message that they were now finished, and I was in the service and suddenly I looked at my phone.

“I was waiting for my burger to come, I was also very tired and I looked at my phone. I thought, 'Oh, I wonder if it's there?' and suddenly it flashed and the script was there.

“I looked around – it was pretty surreal. And I thought, 'I'm standing here at the rest stop waiting for my burger and everyone else is ordering and I have something on my phone that everyone wants to know what's going on.'”

Page was recently spotted in Barry – the town in the Vale of Glamorgan where much of Gavin and Stacey is set and filmed – while filming her new show with Evans.

She took the opportunity to visit Marco's Cafe, where her character Stacey worked in the third season.

“I haven’t been to Barry for years unless I was filming,” she said.

“Well, you know, on the side of Marco’s Café, where he [photos of] we all… I've never seen it because they take it down every time we film.

“When we got there, I thought, 'Oh my God, can I have a photo with me?'”
