The Amis de Bourron-Marlotte and Amis du Musée de Bourron-Marlotte associations, in collaboration with the municipality of Bourron-Marlotte and with the support of the Seine-et-Marne department, are organizing a tribute to Charles Moreau-Vauthier:
Aux arts citoyens! Charles Moreau-Vauthier painter, writer and committed citizen (1857-1924)
After a brief career as a Parisian painter (1880-1887), he devoted himself to novels and art criticism and initiated a series of original and lasting initiatives for the benefit of his fellow citizens in Seine-et-Marne, such as the founding of the small Bourron-Marlotte Museum and the Société des Amis de la Forêt de Fontainebleau.
From a young age, he was immersed in an artistic atmosphere. His father was a famous sculptor, followed by another son. He began writing in the late 1880s before settling in Bourron in 1906, where he became heavily involved in local life and became a regular contributor to the weekly newspaper L'Abeille de Fontainebleau.
He ended his life as principal and teacher at the Comairas School in Fontainebleau, where he had been appointed in 1923.
The exhibition will be divided into three sections: his failed vocation as a painter, his literary conversion and his civic and social commitment. Numerous loans from museums and cultural institutions as well as from private individuals will highlight the richness of the different facets of this extraordinary artist and character.

    Exhibition open from September 21 to October 13, 2024 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission free.
