Cameras at Mount Pisgah appear to deter crime

Lane County Parks reports that crime has decreased at its most visited recreation area, Mount Pisgah, since security measures were implemented.

Brett Henry is the Parks Division Manager in Lane County. He said they usually get one or two car break-ins reported per week, but since they installed cameras in May, they've only had two.

“So we've seen a definite improvement in safety out there and it's really visible,” Henry said. “You can see the cameras and there's signage saying there are cameras. So we think that all helps a little bit.”

The cameras are located at the main entrance and in the main parking lot. Another camera will soon be installed at the northern trailhead.

Henry said the county also has a contract with a security company to guard the park on its busiest days. These security measures are funded by the voter-approved Lane County Parks levy.

Mount Pisgah welcomes between 300,000 and 400,000 visitors annually.
