Harris-Walz campaign criticizes Trump's crime and border policies

In a sharp critique, the Harris-Walz campaign team pointed to former President Donald Trump's record on crime and border issues and emphasized the significant successes of the Biden-Harris administration.

“Donald Trump wants to talk about the border and crime. Let's talk about it,” the campaign said.

Citing recent statistics, the campaign noted that border crossings have fallen by 55% in the past five months, reaching their lowest level since fall 2020. In addition, the government has arrested two of Mexico's most notorious drug lords.

On crime, the campaign pointed to record-breaking declines. In 2023, violent crime fell to a nearly 50-year low, with national murder rates falling 13%. This trend continues through 2024, with violent crime and murder rates on track for historic declines. Data from the Major Cities Chiefs Association supports these claims, showing significant declines in swing states.

There were significant improvements in Arizona, with both Phoenix and Mesa reporting declines in violent crime in 2023 and 2024. Georgia's capital city of Atlanta reported a decline in violent crime in 2023, while assaults and robberies declined in 2024. In addition, DeKalb County also reported a decline in violent crime in 2024.

In Michigan, Detroit reported a decline in violent crime in 2024, recording the lowest number of homicides in 57 years. Las Vegas, Nevada, also reported a decline in violent crime in both 2023 and 2024. Pennsylvania's major cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh also reported a decline in violent crime, rape and assault in 2024.

“Crime is down. Border crossings are down. Donald Trump's angry tirades don't change the facts or the results. Under Trump, America was less safe and we saw unprecedented violence, chaos and division.

“Right now, America is stronger and safer thanks to the work of Vice President Kamala Harris and bipartisan public officials across the country. Violent crime is at a record low, the border is more secure, and unlike Donald Trump, the Vice President is committed to enforcing the law, not breaking it.”

Harris-Walz 2024 Speaker James Singer

In contrast to Trump's time in office, the Harris-Waltz campaign criticized his proposed $400 million cut in funding for local law enforcement and his responsibility for the largest single-year increase in the murder rate in over a century. In addition, they singled out his vice presidential candidate, JD Vance, who has expressed disdain for the police.
