Felon sentenced to 44 years in prison for week-long crime spree in St. Mary's

Tyler Ray Marini Sater

LEONARDTOWN, Maryland. – United States Attorney Jaymi Sterling announced today that Tyler Ray Marini Sater, 22, of Stoney Beach, Maryland, was sentenced to 59 years in prison, including 44 years to be served, for multiple criminal convictions related to his week-long, single-crime spree in December 2022.

On December 13, 2022, Sater committed a knifepoint robbery at the Cloud Smoke Shop in California, Maryland. On December 19, 2022, just six days later, he committed another series of crimes at the Wildewood Shopping Center. As a result, he was convicted of robbery, attempted armed carjacking, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, attempted injury to a police animal, and racketeering and vagrancy. While awaiting trial, Sater fled to Charles County. He was subsequently charged and convicted of second-degree escape.

“While the defendant was on probation in several other counties for disturbingly similar crimes, he fled to our county and began a lone-wolf crime spree. His intentional acts harmed several community members, all of whom suffered the consequences of his criminal conduct,” said District Attorney Sterling. “This sentence is a critical step in protecting the public and ensures that this defendant can no longer target the citizens of our community.”

Senior Assistant District Attorney Alena Mosier prosecuted the case on behalf of the citizens of St. Mary's County.

The lead investigators were Detective Warren Forinash, Detective Daniel Sidorowicz and Detective Taylore Nauman of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

The Honorable Michael J. Stamm presided over this case.
