Crime rate in TPD continues to decline – Tallahassee reports

Approximately 32 weeks (August 11) into 2024, the number of crime incidents reported by Tallahassee Police continues to decline compared to 2023. The latest figures show that robberies are down by double digits. However, the figures show that residential burglaries are up 1.2% year-over-year.

Over the past four weeks, the number of crime incidents has decreased by 13.1% compared to the same period in 2023. During this period, there were 9.2% fewer property crimes and 20.4% fewer violent crimes.

TPD incidents

TPD's daily incident reports show that the total number of crime incidents through August 11, 2024, decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2023.

TR's latest report showed that the total number of crime incidents has decreased by 5.0% since the beginning of the year.

The figures show that the number of property crimes fell by 3.8% and the number of violent crimes fell by 9.7% during this period.

Property crimes include burglary, theft, vandalism and violent crimes, including aggravated assault, armed robbery and physical altercations.

While property crimes have decreased year-on-year, a closer look shows that residential burglaries have increased by 1.2% compared to the same period in 2023.

The decline in property crime is due to a 5.8% decrease in car accidents and a 4.5% decrease in commercial burglaries.

Data on violent crime show a decrease in robberies by 18.8% and in assault crimes by 6.5% during this period.
