Former judge Melissa Boyd back in prison after court order, faces harassment lawsuit

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Former judge Melissa Boyd is back behind bars after a judge ordered the termination of diversion proceedings in a hazing case against her.

Boyd, a former Shelby County judge, has had numerous legal problems in the past, including charges of coercion of a witness and bail violation.

This is also not the first time Boyd has been sent back to prison; in March of this year, Boyd was sent back to prison after testing positive for cocaine and alcohol following participation in a 28-day treatment program.

Following calls for her removal as a judge, Boyd wrote a letter of resignation to the Tennessee State Attorney General's Office. Boyd also spoke openly about her struggle with substance abuse.

By order of the judge, a warrant was issued for Boyd's arrest and she was taken back to prison on August 14.
