UCL injury update for Jazz Chisholm as Yankees make roster changes

play

CHICAGO – Jazz Chisholm Jr. was placed on the injured list on Wednesday as part of a series of moves by the Yankees.

Infielder Oswald Peraza is back, reliever Enyel De Los Santos is out, and Will Warren was called up for his third Major League appearance Wednesday night against the White Sox.

The Yankees did not disclose the extent of Chisholm's UCL (left elbow) injury as of Wednesday afternoon, but Peraza will take his place for now.

According to manager Aaron Boone, the club is still waiting for further medical reports to “assess the severity of the injury.”

However, Boone said, “Jazz is pretty happy with how he feels,” and gave the Yankees a “rather optimistic” forecast.

Chisholm was injured in Monday night's 12-2 loss to the White Sox when he slid headfirst and scored a goal.

Yankees call up Oswald Peraza

Right-hander Oswald Peraza was once considered a highly valued talent of the Yankees, achieving a batting average of .244 and an OPS of .733 in 65 games at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Peraza, 24, had a small power boost in August, with four home runs in his last 10 games and an OPS of 1.023. His recent improvement can be attributed to the return of the toe tap (in place of his leg kick).

Peraza could be on the bench Wednesday and play third base, possibly alternating with Oswaldo Cabrera, a switch-hitter who has hit left-handed against certain left-handed pitchers lately.

As for a possible outside addition, the Dodgers recently designated veteran infielder Amed Rosario for assignment, but he could come from a team lower in the standings than the Yankees.

Yankees DFA reliever Enyel De Los Santos

De Los Santos had just been signed by the San Diego Padres at the MLB transfer deadline for longtime minor league outfielder Brandon Lockridge.

Lauded for his swing-and-miss ability, De Los Santos posted a 14.21 ERA in five games as a Yankee, finishing with a brutal performance on Monday night against the White Sox.

In 1.2 innings at Guaranteed Rate Field, De Los Santos scored seven runs on eight hits in the White Sox's 12-2 victory.

“Part of it is a roster decision because there isn't much left to do,” Boone said, with recent doubleheaders canceled due to rain and only Jake Cousins remaining as a minor league option among the club's relievers.

Update on Lou Trivino’s rehab

The Yankees announced that reliever Lou Trivino would begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class AA Somerset on Wednesday.

Trivino has not pitched since 2022 due to Tommy John surgery and a recovery period interrupted by some physical setbacks.
