Former RPD officer sentenced to ten weekends in prison for raping 13-year-old

ROCHESTER, NY — Is the punishment appropriate? That's what some people are asking after a former Rochester police officer was convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl.

Shawn Jordan was sentenced to ten weekends in prison and ten years' probation on Wednesday after pleading guilty to raping the teenager in South Bristol in 2022.

Shawn Jordan was also sentenced to ten years probation as part of an initial agreement. Jordan pleaded guilty earlier this year to raping the girl in South Bristol in 2022.

The mother of the now 15-year-old girl begged Ontario County Judge Kristina Karle to send her daughter's rapist to prison, but the judge accepted the settlement.

As Jordan rushed to his car after the verdict, he avoided answering any questions after the verdict was announced.

“I'm not entirely happy with the verdict … but ultimately, as a prosecutor, I have to weigh things like the impact it would have on the victim of this crime to actually have to testify. And she's a child, and she would have had to face her accuser in the courtroom. And when I got the opportunity to think about whether or not we would accept a guilty plea – absolutely, all day, in a situation like this,” said Ontario County Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford.

She said: “I'm grateful that it's over for the victim and her family who were here in court today. It's been a long process to get to this point, but ultimately I'm just grateful that they can move on and start healing.”

Wolford said it was not easy to accept the terms of the settlement, but ultimately it came down to “the impact of having an actual obligation to testify for the victim of this crime.”

Jordan will begin serving his sentence later this month – a sentence that Jordan allegedly bragged about, according to Wolford.

“We've heard from members of the community that he's suggested he 'got away' with these allegations. And that's not unusual for us. Unfortunately, people say things like that. But it's concerning if it's (true),” she said.

A protection order has been issued and Jordan will be placed on the sex offender registry.

That case is separate from a case he faces in Monroe County. He was arrested in March 2023 and charged with exposing himself to a minor and engaging in lewd conduct on a video chat. He was suspended without pay and later resigned. A spokesperson for the Monroe County District Attorney's Office says a court date has not yet been set.
