Massive DJI Neo leak reveals everything we didn't know about the lightest drone ever

In numerous posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) almost everything about the DJI Neo was revealed.

Well-known leakers Quadro_News, MysteryLupin and Jasper Ellens have not only published data sheets but also product images of the device and its numerous accessories. The DJI Neo is a tiny, ultra-portable machine that, according to the leak, measures just 130 x 157 x 48.5 mm and weighs a measly 135 grams.

For comparison, the iPhone 15 weighs 171 grams. So you have a drone that is potentially lighter than a smartphone. However, because it is so small, it cannot boast the most impressive specs.

DJI has specified a maximum flight time of around 18 minutes for the upcoming model, or even 17 minutes with the propeller guards installed. However, images in the leak show that the short flight time can be compensated for by using additional 1435 mAh batteries.

The company says that each power pack “will give the drone at least 20 takeoffs and landings from the palm of your hand.” Additionally, you can purchase a two-way charging hub to charge these batteries.

However, the leaked spec sheets note that “results may vary depending on environment, actual usage and firmware version.” 18 minutes is just an approximation based on internal testing.

Camera specifications

On the front of the drone, there is supposedly a 1/2-inch camera with a 12-megapixel lens and a 117.6-degree field of view. It is said to be able to record video at up to 4K resolution at 30 FPS, but you can also record at 60 FPS, just at a lower image quality of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Storage is limited to a maximum of 22GB and there is no way to expand it, so users who want to record high-resolution videos need to be careful how much they record, otherwise all the available storage will quickly be used up.

In addition, the data sheet lists seven individual flight modes, all of which are available on currently available drones.

First, there are Normal, Cinema, Sport and Manual modes. Just to give you an idea of what they do, Cinema mode keeps the aircraft stable when shooting video, while Sport mode makes it “more responsive to control stick movements.”

The datasheet also mentions three QuickShot functions, such as Rocket, which allows the drone to ascend quickly while the camera is pointing downwards.

Other notable features include a maximum flight distance of seven kilometers, internal GPS, and support for a first-person mode. To use the drone's FPV function, you will need some accessories such as the DJI Goggles 3 and the DJI RC-N3 remote controller.

Availability

That's pretty much all the relevant information we could glean from the leak. The photos show the drone from various angles, so if you're interested, they're still available online at the time of writing. Pricing for the DJI Neo is unknown, but additional propeller guards are said to cost $15 each.

Jasper Ellens claims that the drone will be released on August 20th. Apparently a number of YouTubers already own the device and are currently testing it, so we probably won't have to wait long to find out more.
