McDermott secures EPCI contract for Shell Field off Trinidad and Tobago

McDermott International Ltd. has secured a contract for the Manatee gas field development project, located 100 kilometers off the southeast coast of Trinidad and Tobago.

McDermott announced in a press release that it will provide engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), connection and commissioning services for the project to Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. This contract follows the successful completion of front-end engineering design, detailed engineering and long-term procurement services contracts for the initial design and execution planning of the project, which will serve as a replacement for the country's Atlantic LNG plant.

Under the contract, McDermott is responsible for the design, procurement, fabrication, connection and commissioning of a platform and jacket. In addition, the company will undertake the design, installation and commissioning of a 32-inch gas pipeline that will connect the platform to a gas processing plant operated by Shell. The contract also includes the design, procurement, installation and testing of a fiber optic cable.

“This contract leverages our unique, integrated EPCI capabilities and our heritage of engineering excellence and innovation to successfully deliver large offshore platforms and complex subsea infrastructure globally,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, senior vice president of subsea and floating assets at McDermott. “The Manatee project builds on our track record of successful project delivery for Shell and exemplifies our commitment to building the energy infrastructure needed to meet demand.”

According to Shell, Manatee is scheduled to begin production in 2027. Once oil production is online and at peak production, Manatee will produce 104,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, or 604,000 standard cubic feet per day.
