New arrests for murder as police investigate shooting

Two more arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Walsall.

Connor Brookes, 20, was shot dead in Well Lane, Blakenhall, shortly before 5pm BST on Monday 8 July.

The two men, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody, West Midlands Police said.

A total of seven people have now been arrested in connection with the shooting of Mr Brookes.

Three men, aged 19, 20 and 22, have already been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

In addition, two teenagers aged 17 and 18 were arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail, officials said.

Mr Brookes' family said he was a “kind, respectful young man” and “the whole family and community loved Connor”.

A second victim was treated in hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
