Oops… the release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard leaked a few hours early

The release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard was revealed in a last-minute leak thanks to a cheeky promotional video. Electronic Arts had planned to announce the game's release date in about… *looks at watchless wrist* …7 hours as part of a special release trailer. But the internet will always be the internet, and thanks to the odd slip-up, we know a little bit early. Should I tell you the actual release date? Sure. I think so.

The very purple RPG is coming out on October 31, according to the idiosyncratic advert spotted by Xitter leak connoisseur Wario64, among others. I've embedded the trailer for the upcoming release anyway, so you can enjoy it when it finally drops. I haven't seen it yet, so let's see if I can predict exactly what will happen in it.

  • A creature squeaks and is angry
  • A magician folds his arms haughtily
  • VFX blows a pile of wooden boxes into pieces
  • Varric looks suggestively into the camera

Did any of that come true? As you can see, I'm struggling. I jumped off the Dragon Age tour bus after Dragon Age 2's city took the series away from a globe-trotting jaunt and focused on a (in my opinion) fairly uninteresting city. Dragon Age: Inquisition's opening area didn't reinvigorate me. But I know plenty of people are enjoying watching the trials of these warlock weirdos. “Dragon Age II, unfairly maligned in my opinion, is about a city facing external and internal conflict over a long period of time,” Alice B once said. “Inquisition is about a world that is at war with itself, literally and figuratively.” There's also a fun scene where you storm a fancy masquerade ball.

It's been a while since Inquisition came out, so you'd be forgiven for having no idea why the elven mage Solas suddenly opens a questionable portal. Thankfully, Veilguard guides you through the story up to this point, and even lets you stick with your old choices if you can remember them.
