Halsey releases new single “Lonely Is The Muse”

Halsey is preparing to release another single titled “Lonely Is The Muse.”

The “Closer” hitmaker shared a teaser of the upcoming track's release this morning, announcing its impending release on August 16, 2024 at 12pm PHST (Philippine Standard Time). The teaser was accompanied by a one-minute snippet of the track, which showcases a 2000s rock soundscape emphasizing Halsey's screamo vocals – which sonically marks a departure from her previously released singles and the majority of her discography.

Just a few weeks ago, Halsey released the single “Lucky,” which samples Britney Spears' single of the same name. To accompany the song, the singer-songwriter released an emotional short film directed by Gia Coppola and starring herself. The film tells the story of a pop star who leads a double life of loneliness under the pressure of the spotlight while suffering from a chronic illness. The video also reflects Halsey's real-life struggle with lupus and T-cell disorder, which she revealed to the public in June 2024.

“Lonely Is The Muse” is the second single from the alternative pop star’s as yet untitled fifth studio album, which is due out before the end of 2024. Her last album, If I can't have love, I want powerwas released in 2021 and was produced and co-written by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. The alt-rock record received critical acclaim upon its release, with several media outlets calling it a welcome departure from Halsey's pop leanings and marking her most creative and ambitious work to date. It was also her final album on Capitol Records.
