Man accused of stabbing another man multiple times in Downtown Crossing to appear in court – Boston 25 News

The suspect accused of stabbing a person in Downtown Crossing on Wednesday morning is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Boston police have arrested 33-year-old Calvin Spencer for the crime. They say Spencer was arrested on outstanding warrants, including failure to register as a sex offender. However, transit surveillance video footage may link Spencer to the stabbing.

According to police, Spencer was observed throwing a knife and a hat onto the Downtown Crossing MBTA platform after the stabbing and running away from Andrew Station shirtless.

The police report documents that he was stopped and arrested on a nearby street.

Boston police said a man was stabbed multiple times, including in the back and arm, shortly before 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

This victim is expected to survive.

The stabbing left large parts of Downtown Crossing paralyzed; sneakers and a bloody backpack were the focus of the investigation.

Mayor Michelle Wu said Boston has high standards for itself and is always striving to eliminate violence in the city.

“We need to make sure that every single part of Boston, every street, is a place where people feel comfortable and safe and confident to spend their time there and enjoy all that the city has to offer,” Wu said.

After the stabbing, City Councilman Ed Flynn posted on X:

“Residents, workers, and tourists keep telling me that they no longer feel safe in Downtown Crossing and Boston Common. Since several approved events are already planned on Boston Common, I recommend that they not go ahead. Many parts of Boston Common are no longer safe!”

This is not the first time in recent months that Boston 25 has reported on crime in Downtown Crossing or the Common. On June 10, a person was shot in the Common, police officers were nearby and were able to catch and arrest the suspect. On July 25, a double shooting occurred in Downtown Crossing on Summer Street near Citizen's Bank and Macy's.

Last Friday, officers responded to a stabbing on Summer Street.

They said the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but no arrests have been made so far.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates as more information becomes available.
