Albon not convinced by the hype surrounding the title fight between Verstappen and Norris

Alex Albon is unsure if he believes Lando Norris can beat Max Verstappen in the battle for the Drivers' Championship, with the Williams driver unconvinced by the hype surrounding the title fight.

Ahead of next weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, many have speculated whether Norris can close his 78-point deficit to Verstappen and become F1 World Champion.

However, it is very unlikely that this will happen as Albon sees the Constructors' Championship as the real title fight.

McLaren goes into the final ten races of the season just 42 points behind Red Bull and with two strong drivers.

Red Bull is not in that position as Sergio Perez has had a disappointing first half of the season.

Many, including former Haas boss Günther Steiner, have tipped McLaren as the winner of the title.

Albon enjoys the battle and the extraordinary races that take place at the front of the field.

“I don't know how much I believe Lando can take this away from Max,” said Albon RacingNews365 in an exclusive interview.

“I see this more as a battle for the constructors' championship than the drivers' championship. I think it's just great to see that there is a battle going on.”

“There is a real battle at the front of every race, something seems to be going on.

“New” experience for Norris

Since the introduction of the current regulations in 2022, most of the duels in an F1 race take place in the midfield.

Albon has been at the centre of many of these races with Williams, although the main action is now at the front.

The 28-year-old believes it is good for the sport that such battles occur among the leaders, but points out that the title fight represents a new situation for Norris.

“I think last year and the last couple of years it was always the battles in the midfield that made the racing possible,” Albon continued.

“And now it’s actually the top teams that are making the fight and that’s great to see.

“It's interesting. Max has obviously been in his position many times before. For Lando, it's more of a new experience.

“But yeah, I mean, obviously I'm busy driving my car, but at the same time it's good to see the battles when the blue flags come up.”
