Fatal accident | Durham man found dead after car crash linked to Morrisville police chase

DURHAM, NC — Durham police are investigating a fatal accident involving a car theft and subsequent chase.

Officers were notified of the car crash in the 5900 block of South Miami Blvd. around 4:41 a.m. Thursday. A passing driver reported the accident.

Officers responding to the crash said a man's body was found near the car. They believe the driver was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Durham police say their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the car was the only person in the car. They have also determined the car is connected to an early morning carjacking in Morrisville. Officers in Morrisville pursued the driver but called off the pursuit after losing sight of the car.

The identity of the person killed in the crash has not been disclosed.

Traffic report: South Miami Blvd. between Emperor Blvd. and Surles Court is closed due to the investigation.
