Early morning chase in Jefferson City leads to drug arrest

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police arrested an unidentified driver early Thursday who attempted to flee a traffic stop.

A news release from Jefferson City police said the 48-year-old Jefferson City resident was arrested when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. While police did not release a location, they said the pursuit went through several city streets before officers stopped the vehicle with spike barriers.

The driver fled but was caught by officers, the press release states. Police found several grams of methamphetamine, the press release states.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, reckless driving, operating an unregistered vehicle, hit and run, drug trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

The suspect was released from the Cole County Jail pending arraignment.
