Halsey has released her single “Lonely Is The Muse”: Listen here

All-encompassing vulnerability is the common thread throughout Halsey's album so far. First, Halsey revealed her years-long struggle with various chronic illnesses in “The End.” Then the multi-platinum artist put her own spin on Britney Spears' “Lucky” (with Spears' blessing) with a single of the same name. About a month ago, Halsey shared that she once feared her upcoming album “might be the last album I ever got to make,” so she held nothing back.

You can see that.

On Thursday, August 15, Halsey released “Lonely Is The Muse.” The alt-rock single harks back to Halsey’s sonic palette for her Grammy-nominated 2021 album, If I can't have love, I want power.

“I always knew I was a martyr and that Jesus was one too,” Halsey sings in the chorus. “But I was built from special parts that I learned to unscrew / And I can always put them back together to fit you perfectly / Or anyone who decides I'm of use.”

As if that wasn't poignant enough, Halsey further demonstrated her poetic skills in the second verse: “So where do I go in this process if I'm just a machine? / I've inspired platinum records, I've achieved platinum status with airlines / And I've mined a few diamonds from the stories in my head / But I'm just a body in someone else's bed here.”

Halsey has not announced the title or release date of her upcoming album, but it goes without saying that it is likely to come out sooner rather than later.
