Woodbridge driver charged in Clifton crash that killed passenger

CLIFTON, VA – A Woodbridge driver has been charged in connection with a crash in Clifton that killed a passenger in his car, Fairfax County police said.

On July 13, around 10 a.m., the driver was traveling west on Old Yates Ford Road near Henderson Road in a 2003 Honda Accord when he lost control and crossed the double yellow line. A 2019 Volkswagen Atlas traveling east on Old Yates Ford Road struck the Honda on the passenger side.

The passenger of the Honda, Jack Gumm, 22, of Manassas, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Honda driver, Mukeh Banya, 21, of Woodbridge, was uninjured but was charged with failure to control his vehicle and released on a summons.

The police do not believe that alcohol played a role in the accident.
